🧵 Designing Identity Through Sport: The Story Behind the Manchester Kho Kho Kit

At Manchester Kho Kho Club, we believe that sport is more than competition — it’s a platform for storytelling, cultural connection, and collective identity.


When we began designing our official team kit, we knew we weren’t just creating a jersey. We were crafting a visual language that would represent who we are, what we stand for, and where we’re headed as a club, as a community, and as part of a growing global sport.

This post is the story behind that design.


Manchester Kho Kho Kit


🎨 The Colour Story: Navy and Gold


We chose navy blue as the primary base of our kit to reflect the depth and discipline of Kho Kho. It’s a colour that carries a sense of tradition — fitting for a sport with roots stretching over 4,000 years into Indian history.


To complement this, we added accents of gold — symbolising ambition, growth, and excellence. Gold also carries connotations of prestige and forward motion, representing Kho Kho’s leap onto global stages like the Kho Kho World Cup and its growing presence in the UK.


Together, navy and gold tell a story of respect for the past and energy for the future.


🛡️ The Emblem: MCR EST.25

Our club crest isn’t just a logo — it’s a layered symbol of Manchester Kho Kho Club’s ethos.

  • Laurel leaves evoke victory, but also unity — a nod to team play and tradition.

  • The motion lines in the design reference the speed, agility, and flow of a game where every second counts.

  • The crossed batons at the base honour the sport’s origins in Indian physical culture.

  • “MCR” anchors our identity firmly in Manchester, while “EST.25” signifies our founding year — the start of something new in 2025.


It’s clean, powerful, and modern — just like the way we want to present the sport.


🧬 Design Elements: Pattern, Fit & Meaning


Look closer, and you’ll find geometric detailing woven into the fabric — a subtle but intentional homage to the Kho Kho court itself, with its central lane, posts, and turning points. These patterns mirror the strategic precision required in every chase and dodge.


The angular curved panels on the sides of the jersey reflect the sport’s core motion: pivoting, turning, and bursting into speed. And the athletic fit was designed to feel fast — because Kho Kho is one of the fastest tag sports in the world.


This isn’t just performance wear. It’s a uniform that embodies the game.


🤝 Crafted in Collaboration: SB.Garmentwala


We partnered with SB.Garmentwala, known for their craft in bespoke teamwear, to bring this vision to life. Their attention to detail, fabric quality, and respect for sport culture made them the perfect partner to build something meaningful — not just functional.

The result? A kit we’re proud to wear. One that feels like Manchester. One that tells the story of Kho Kho’s next chapter.

We’re now opening limited pre-orders for players, supporters, and fans of the club. The jersey is available via our online shop, and orders close Saturday.
